Each to there own I believe that wood, sup-air, X and the like all have there place. If that the aspect of the sport you enjoy partake in it. How many type of running events are there. How many type of motoring events are there.

So are you suggesting to get rid of the X-ball? That would deprive the top players and big-players in the sport a free jolly to foreign climates. but will it become like the premiership in football, thats the big question. As the media become interested in the sport will it only be the X-ball teams that get all the media coverage and thus leave the rest of us to rot in the 1st division with no money. At least at the end of the day if you live in the Uk you had the chance to try out for the UK X-ball team. If you lived elsewhere they just picked who they wanted from the big name teams.

Thats one point T\L and a good one at that"jobs for the boys" eh!,Xball seems to be spliting US paintball into 2 camps and there doesn't seem to be any attempt to combine Xball and concept\sup air into one series or format so are we going to have like Rugby ... League and Union = Xball and Sup air, that can't be good and what about Woodland its still played at tourney level that means you've got 3 separate discplines in one sport I don't think the UK has enough tourney players for 3 different leagues.

Come on, we all know the UK try outs were a waste of time. The squad was already picked from the 'big names' in the game.
Oh and it just happens that most of them work in the industry!
Now isn't that funny

I notice that two of the big firm sponsored teams have folded and one of them was not very amicable.

Your right, at the top levels everything is about love and hate relationships.
In my opinion all the top players have lost the love for the game unlike us little minows

As a response to TL's 1st reply on this subject, and after reading TWO!! good articles in PGI(they're like buses, wait years for one then two turn up at once ) it seems that Xball is a copywriten format , so whats that mean? 1st NOBODY can use or stage an Xball event without paying the owners 2nd all Xball refs would appear to be supplied by Xball i.e. you run a tourney in the UK you pay for the refs to come over from the good ole' US of A 3rd Xball isn't being run out to Europe fully at present because of "lack of funding" not because of the widespread resistance or the fact that the Yanks think Europe is irrelevant(and their scared shitless by some of the up and coming teams like Russian Legion). Its being held back so they can establish it in the'States using TV and quote"major outside sponsorships" So whats it all mean ? at best tourney paintball being split in to 2 or 3 different groups all at each others throats for players ,sponsors etc. At worst Supair, woodland disappear as Xball makes the sponsorship of the other games pointless, new players wanting to get into tourneys abandoning everything but Xball as there's nothing else, promoters being swallowed up by Xball plc. meaning less choice more cost for the average baller. BUT worst of all PROFESSIONAL paintballers who earn their livings from nothing else but playing paintball, dream job for everybody on here? OH YES ,but nobody on here would get a look in as to get to these levels would be so expensive and sponsorship for amateur teams so difficult to get `cos any good players you might have would get "snapped up "by pro teams you'd have no choice but to fund yourself and belive me if you think its a dear sport now wait until there are only one or two major suppliers \promoters in the world. OK I may have over exagerated ,but all sports soccer,American football ,golf etc all go this way when they get turned into TV friendly, sponsored, big money earning ventures and the only losers are the people who enjoy the game for the sake of playing Maybe I am paranoid after all.

It actually seems that there is currently a backlash against X-ball by some of the big name teams, because the organisers are trying to sign teams up exclusively to play and the teams are not impressed.

Mmmm, doesn't suprise me at all. That last post of mine was a bit of a ramble(but I've sobered up a bit now ), from what I can gather Xball is going to be a franchsie which means EVERYBODY has to pay ,from player to site owner, which isn't a problem when you've got a choice of tourney disciplines `cos you won't choose Xball, trouble is the people at"Xball plc." are going to try and get rid of the choice (Supair\Woodland) The whole NPPL\PSP rift only plays into their hands as a force divided is no force at all. I hope I'm wrong, but can other players see the problems that "Xball plc." will bring ? Nobody "owns" the rights to woodland\concept\supair as they've evolved in the public domain and it would be pretty much impossible to prove otherwise. Xball was invented,by a company and therefore they OWN it...draw you're own conclusions, but i don't think the "future" of paintball was near the top of the planning list.

I had a little read up about X ball but didn't really get the concept (I think). All i got out of reading the X Ball site was that you could only wear one layer of clothing and that it was fast. Can someone please explain the main differance. I play woodland and Sup Air for a South West League team.

The idea of X Ball is to get it on TV, only the yanks can make a 10 min game last 2 hrs. (look at American football)
The comments made by Andy Hatton (edior PaintballUK) in his article about the "Paintball Association" in the first edition of PaintballUK seem much more logical than to go down the X Ball route.
Although if X Ball can be a format for TV in the form of "One Off" shows once a year (Like worlds strongest man etc) then it may be of some use.
